Our Services

Speech Pathology

Communication is the foundation of connection. At Sydney Speech OT, we provide thorough diagnostic assessments and evidence-based speech therapy tailored to the unique needs of children, adolescents and young adults. Our certified practising speech pathologists are here to help with the following family-centred services.

speech pathology clinic room

Early Language Development: Suitable for infants and toddlers (15 months to 3 years). Early communication intervention is best for late talkers, children who are slow to reach their communication milestones, use fewer words, or form shorter phrases than their peers.

Speech Sound Disorders: For preschoolers, school age children and older students who have poor articulation, phonological processes, lack speech clarity, are ‘difficult to understand’ or have specific speech errors such as a lisp.

Stuttering (Fluency): For children and adults who have difficulties with ‘getting words out’ and will benefit from smooth speech techniques such as the Lidcombe Program.

Language Disorders: For people of all ages who have difficulties with learning new words, using accurate grammar, understanding spoken or written information, following instructions, forming sentences, expressing simple to complex ideas, describing experiences and sharing a sequence of events.

Social Language (Pragmatics) and Social Skills Support: For people of all ages who need support with communicating in social situations, understanding facial expressions, tone of voice, proximity (e.g. personal space), conversation strategies and techniques to interact with family members, make friends, participate in conversations or interact with colleagues in the workplace. Infants and toddlers who have little or limited engagement with their parents, and appear to be ‘in their own world’ will also benefit from this support.

Literacy Support: For school -age students and young adults experiencing difficulties with phonological awareness, reading, writing and spelling.

Assistive Technology (AAC): For people of all ages who require assistance with using their communication system more effectively or may need an assessment to identify an AAC system that is suitable for them and their family to use long-term.

Voice Disorders: For children, teenagers and young adults who have difficulties with using their voice effectively, e.g. rough or breathy vocal quality.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is about enabling independence through infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood by supporting the need to-do’s and want to-do’s in your daily life.

At Sydney Speech OT, our Occupational Therapists tailor everyday activities and goal-oriented strategies to grow a ‘can do‘ mindset and bring meaning and purpose to life’s occupations.

Our Occupational Therapists can help you build skills to reach milestones for development and/or recovery. We can help adjust the environment so you can cope better with changes and function at your best.

See below for how Occupational Therapy can assist you or your child

Fine Motor: Developing hand strength, a functional grasp and coordination needed for handwriting and using scissors in the classroom, using cutlery at the dining table, and managing buttons or zippers when wearing clothes.

Gross Motor: Improving balance, coordination and core strength needed for sitting, walking, stair climbing, running, jumping, and ball skills used during sports.

Self regulation and Sensory processing: Help recognise feelings, understand internal or external sensations, and regulate responses to different sounds, sights, tastes, smells, textures, movements and positions.

Executive Functioning: Teaching organisational skills for memory, planning, problem solving, focusing, and following instructions.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL): Supporting functional independence in morning or night routines, toileting, meal time, sleep time, bath time, dressing and self-care tasks.

Life Skills: Building skills needed when socialising, playing, cooking, shopping, cleaning, gardening, managing money, managing appointments, relaxing, caring for pets, using the phone or computer.

Community Participation: Creating engaging and inclusive ways to access the community with confidence, participate in leisure or recreational activities, increase awareness for road safety or cyber safety, or applying for a job.
